Volunteering in Suffolk

Sport is the single biggest segment of volunteering in the sector.

More than one fifth of the 15 million people who volunteer regularly spend their time volunteering in sport (Active People Survey Sports England 2014). In 2013 the "Join In" volunteering survey reported that volunteers gave up their time because they enjoy it (35%) and to give something back to the community (25%). The numbers of people who volunteer though has remained fairly static since 2005 and 7/10 clubs say they need more volunteers; so there is plenty of work still to do.

Suffolk Sport aims to support voluntary sports clubs within the county by helping them to recruit and retain volunteers. If you already have an idea of a sport in which you might like get involved with you can contact us and we can put you in touch with a local club. We also run our own projects and events that are looking for volunteers such as Fit Villages, iCAN and Cycle Suffolk.

There are other, non-sporting organisations which can also support your club. Please see the Community Action Suffolk (CAS) website for more details. The countywide Sport and Event volunteering project is supporting Suffolk's campaign to become England's 'Most Active County'.

Join In

Alternatively take a look at all the opportunities on join in in Suffolk. Join in is the official London Games legacy charity working to support and grow community clubs across the UK. Their mission is to increase the number of people lending a hand in their area – strengthening local sport across the UK for generations to come, and helping people of all ages to discover rewarding ways to make a difference locally. If your club is looking for more volunteers, then you can post volunteering opportunities there too. Join in also offers advice and tips to clubs on how to grow and develop your volunteer team on their How To page below.

Do It

Do it also works in partnership with the Volunteer Centre Network within England, in Suffolk that is Community Action Suffolk, to post opportunities online. You can specifically search for sport and leisure positions.

Lastly if you are a young person between the ages of 14-25 take a look at vinspired - the nation's leading youth volunteering charity. They have over one million opportunities and have engaged with over 150,000 young volunteers.
