Volunteering in Suffolk
Sport is the single biggest segment of volunteering in the sector.
More than one fifth of the 15 million people who volunteer regularly spend their time volunteering in sport (Active People Survey Sports England 2014). In 2013 the "Join In" volunteering survey reported that volunteers gave up their time because they enjoy it (35%) and to give something back to the community (25%). The numbers of people who volunteer though has remained fairly static since 2005 and 7/10 clubs say they need more volunteers; so there is plenty of work still to do.
Active Suffolk aims to support voluntary sports clubs within the county by helping them to recruit and retain volunteers. If you already have an idea of a sport in which you might like get involved with you can contact us and we can put you in touch with a local club. We also run our own projects and events that are looking for volunteers such as Fit Villages and Active Wellbeing.
There are other, non-sporting organisations which can also support your club. Please see the Community Action Suffolk (CAS) website for more details. The countywide Sport and Event volunteering project is supporting Suffolk's campaign to become England's 'Most Active County'.
Active Suffolk are looking to set up a volunteer mentoring scheme, for more information please contact us as per the below. More details on the scheme will be published soon.
