School Games Organisers

Four sprinters line-up before their race at last summer's Suffolk School Games Festival

A School Games Organiser (SGO) supports the delivery of the School Games and Change4Life in schools.

The role is orientated around five 'core tasks' designed to provide a focus for an SGOs work programme. The core tasks for 2016/17 are:

Participation: Drive school participation in School Games competition and increase the number of young people taking part in competition.

Competition for all: Develop competitive opportunities for all, including the least active.

Clubs: Increase regular participation in club sport; involve the least active through Change4Life Sports Clubs and increase links to local clubs.

Workforce: Broaden participation opportunities through volunteering and workforce roles.

Performance: Establish key performance indicators, target delivery and review progress on a termly basis.

There are approximately 450 SGO's across the whole of England with 8 working in Suffolk across the following partnership areas;

Bio

I am the School Games Organiser based at Copleston High School I have been in this role since 2015, I am also the Inclusive Sport Lead for the County.

I have a real passion for sport playing both cricket and rugby. I also hold level 2 coaching qualifications in both sports.

I have been lucky enough to play cricket for my County and also play two seasons in Australia, with this in mind I feel very strongly about giving every child the opportunity to be the best that they can be in any sport.

I also believe that young people can learn lifelong lesions through sport.

Bio

I moved from London to Suffolk back in 2000 and have never looked back since. I thoroughly enjoy my role and feel very privileged to have a career in sport and physical activity. Despite the numerous challenges, I have no desire to do anything else anytime soon! In what spare time I can find I enjoy playing five-a-side football, tag rugby, running and swimming.

Interesting Fact: I am a former British Champion.

Bio

Background of facility and sports development work. Started career as assistant manager in a leisure centre with wetside responsibility, before moving in to Sports development. Enjoy facility management but always had a leaning towards sports development and working with young people. Started with the School Sport Partnership in 2009 and then evolved into the School Games Organiser role in 2011.

I also sit on the county Suffolk PE and Sport Network group which takes a strategic role to oversee the development of the School Games in Suffolk and how it may change in the future to meet the needs of schools in Suffolk. Also sit on the Suffolk Youth Tennis Forum.

Interesting Fact Keen golfer and tennis player but due to serious wrist injury have had several season's out of sport. However, started playing golf again last year and won my first monthly medal! Am now aiming to get handicap down and having had a net 65 in a medal recently have been cut heavily!!
