FAQ

How does Fit Villages work?
Following an initial expression of interest, Suffolk Sport will liaise with a village to determine what activities might be popular with local residents. If there is enthusiasm for something new and suitable facilities are available, we will explore the most popular activity(s) options and contact qualified instructors to deliver an activity programme (usually lasting up to 8 weeks). Taster sessions can also be explored.
Can any village apply?
Yes - any village in Suffolk is welcome to get involved. There is no requirement to submit a bid to participate.
What kind of activities are available?
Activities can include anything inside or outside which the village can accommodate safely. Popular activities to date have included (but are not restricted to):
- Nordic Walking
- Zumba Fitness®/ Zumba Gold®
- Pilates
- Yoga
- Chair-Based Exercise
- Keep Fit
- Rounders
- Tai Chi
Suffolk Sport works with a huge number of National Governing Bodies, therefore we are also able to offer programmes in sports as diverse as Dodgeball or Hockey.
How long is a Fit Villages Programme?
In the interests of sustainability, programmes are usually 6-8 consecutive weeks in length. We can also offer taster sessions.
How does the funding work?
Suffolk Sport provides funding which covers:
- Instructor Time
- Facility Costs
- Post Activity Refreshments (if required)
- Marketing, Flyers and Posters to promote activity sessions
Participants are asked to make a small contribution to sessions depending on the activity (around £3).
Who can participate?
Funding covers anyone 16 years of age and older. There is no upper age limit.
What happens at the end of the 8 weeks?
At the end of the initial 8 weeks, we hope there is sufficient local interest in the activity for it to continue on a self-sustaining basis. Suffolk Sport can also assist with additional marketing costs.
Can villages run more than one programme?
Yes. Villages can run up to three programmes if there is sufficient demand for different activities. These can run simultaneously or at different times throughout the year.
How long do we have to get involved?
All programmes must be completed by April 2014.
