Hockey is a sport which is played all over the world and is fairly unique because men and women play in equal numbers so it is a mixed sport. It is played from grassroots upwards and relies very heavily on the good work volunteers do within the sport whether it is Officiating, Administrative, Coaching this is just to mention a few.

In Suffolk we currently have 19 active hockey clubs, 3 of these have been awarded Clubs 1st accreditation by England Hockey. This shows they have proven they can provide a safe and effective educational environment to send young players to. We also have 9 other clubs in Suffolk which are working towards Clubs 1st.

One the roles of Suffolk Hockey is to help clubs to achieve Clubs 1st Status. The Coach Education programme for Suffolk which is the county wide level one course and to provide information about level 2 courses which are run in the East region. A large part of work is to support the Suffolk Schools Hockey Association with the new proposals for the Single System. This means we as a county will be working towards providing 1 Junior Academy Centre and 4 Junior Development Centres across Suffolk. The main aim of this is to provide a stable spine for all talented junior players and to help them develop their full potential as young players. Within Suffolk Schools we also provide opportunities for competition in the form of school hockey festivals which can lead onto playing at the Suffolk Youth Games.
