East Anglia will have its first ever dedicated golf show this summer. Golf East will be held at Trinity Park, Ipswich, home of the Suffolk County Show, 14th and 15th July, courtesy of two local business women.
The Show featured in the April edition of Golf Monthly: Britain’s most widely read golf magazine:
It is a Show with a difference in that it will be a day out for all the family, experienced golfers and non-experienced golfer alike along with anyone who has ever wanted to give golf a go.
Sarah Wilson (PGA pro) and Susan Moore both own 9 hole courses in Suffolk: Bramford Golf Centre and Clare Park Lake Golf Course, identified last year that there has never been a dedicated golf show in East Anglia. After extensive research they found that support for such a show was unanimously positive. The trade, the clubs, pros, media and golfers alike thought it was a great idea.
Golf East will feature a full length driving range showcasing Mizuno, Wilson, Cleveland, Srixon, Snake Eyes, all giving the opportunity to try clubs, be fitted and then buy…a real hands on experience. There is even a junior range with clubs to try and great offers.
There is a dedicated Fashion zone with major brands exhibiting including Daily Sports, Green Lamb, Galvin Green, Lyle and Scott, Greg Norman, Maggie Lane, Stromberg, Cutter and Buck, Druh belts, Hi tec shoes and others in the pipe line. Energetic fashion dance routines will take place on the stage throughout the day courtesy of University Campus Suffolk.
For clubs it is an opportunity to promote their facilities and so far Ufford Park, Fynn Valley, Stoke by Nayland, Woodbridge, Ipswich, Seckford, Hintlesham, Clare Park Lake GC and Bramford Golf Centre are exhibiting. They will also be offering special show promotions.
There will be trick shot entertainment from Kevin Carpenter, a gadgets and gizmos, dedicated area, simulators, interactive and kids play areas and even a Sanctuary Marquee for those who don’t find golf the ‘be all and end all’ and much much more.. Clarice House, a local spa and gym, will be demonstrating golf related exercise routines and pros are on hand all day to give taster lessons and tips all free of charge.
The Show has already attracted generous sponsorship from East Anglian Daily Times and the Ipswich Star, BMW Coopers Ipswich, Ladies Golf Lifestyle Magazine, Barclays, European Golf Machinery with Local radio Station Town 102 providing entertainment all weekend and a close working relationship has been forged with students from the University Campus Suffolk. Dedicated charities are the Golf Foundation and EACH: the local children’s hospice
It promises to be a great day out and incredibly good value for money. Tickets are only £10 for adults with 16’s and under free if accompanied by an adult and concessions £7.50. There will be no hidden charges so parking is free too. Tickets will go on sale through the website www.golfeast.co.uk and selected golf clubs from 1st June. The show programme will be available in advance and will contain money off vouchers and promotion specials to use over the weekend.
The Show is also seen as a chance to provide easy routes for beginners to take up the game. As golf course owners Sarah and Susan know that the barriers to taking up the sport can be intimidating but anyone who has ever wanted to give golf a go can find absolutely everything they need to do so in one place over one weekend.
There has been great media coverage already: East Anglian Daily Times, and Ipswich Star, Golf Monthly, Todays Golfer, Suffolk and Norfolk Golfer, Essex Golfer, Pro Shop Europe, East Life magazine to name but a few.
This is a good news story in times of austerity. It is two local girls with a big idea, a passion for their sport and the very best of intentions to give everyone a great day out.
‘Golf needs dynamic people with real vision like Susan and Sarah and I think Golf East is a great idea’ Michael Harris editor Golf Monthly.
