ADAMSON APPOINTED NEW RUGBY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
FOR EASTERN COUNTIES

The Rugby Football Union has appointed Lee Adamson as its new Rugby Development Officer (RDO) for the Eastern Counties.

Adamson started work this week overseeing the development of the game in the counties
of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

The 49-year-old from St Neots made more than 500 appearances for Wasps,
Middlesex, London Counties, Barbarians and Saracens. He is currently Club President of Saracens, whose women's team he has coached to 4 national league titles and four
national Cup successes in recent years.

After 32 years working with the Metropolitan Police, he moves to take over from Nick Greenhall working out of the Eastern Counties RFU office at Stowmarket in Suffolk.

There are 46 Rugby Development Officers in England, who are the key contact points and disseminators of information for the rugby community.

They help develop the game in clubs, schools, and in Further and Higher Education establishments and manage Community Rugby Coaches to ensure local delivery of the
RFU strategic plan designed to increase participation and develop facilities.

"The key focus for me is to increase participation throughout the region in terms of players
as well as administrators and volunteers, and to ensure as many people as possible
can derive enjoyment from the game," said Adamson.

"We promote the game in schools and colleges through the development of players and coaches as well as supporting the development of clubs so that they can access funding to provide better facilities for all.

"In a nutshell it's about making sure that the resources and expertise of the RFU and
Eastern Counties RFU help support the grassroots of the game to make it flourish."

Adamson is supported by a full-time Community Rugby Coach (CRC) inSuffolk, Tim Reed,
and the RFU is planning to put two more CRCs in place in Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.

"It was a real coup for us to get someone with Lee's experience and expertise in the post,"
said RFU Regional Rugby Development Manager Rob Drinkwater. "It's a big role covering a huge patch but we're sure he has the skills to move things forward.

"We're hoping to further increase the support for clubs and schools in the area by putting two more Community Rugby Coaches in place in the Eastern Counties this season."
