United Kingdom
Coaching
Certificate (UKCC)
The UK Coaching Certificate is an initiative to endorse coach
education programmes, across sports within the UK, against agreed
criteria including:
- The endorsement of the coaching qualification a coach will take
- The development of appropriate resources to deliver effective and high quality coach education programmes
- Quality assured administration and management structure of coach education provision provided by sports
- Quality assured training provision of coach education programmes
This means that if you take a coaching qualification that is
endorsed by the UKCC, you can be confident that youre on the way to
coaching success!

What does the
UKCC mean for coaches?
- The creation of nationally recognised standards for coach education will professionalise the role of the coach. Most professional industries have a standard for qualification; now coaching does.
- The UKCC will raise the profile of sports coaching.
- A UK wide qualification means it is easier for coaches to move between the Home Countries and gain employment as a coach.
- The transferable elements of core parts of UKCC qualifications mean it will be easier to move between sports.
- It will be easier to highlight your level of coaching to potential employers.
UKCC Frequently
Asked Questions
What will happen to my existing coaching
qualification?
Your NGB will be responsible for
deciding what changes are necessary to transfer current NGB
qualifications into newly accredited UKCC qualifications. This may
take the format of a 'bridging course', some 'add-on' modules, or
through APL. This decision is entirely down to the NGB
itself. Most NGB's are still very much focusing
on the changes that need to be made to the core level 1- 3
qualifications so until these are sorted its unlikely that there
will be any information about the transfer for at least 6-12
months. If you require any further information
about your sport please contact you local NGB Development Officer
or website.
What do I need to do to take a UKCC
qualification?
You should contact you National Governing Body (NGB) and
enquire how they will be delivering UKCC endorsed
courses. They will be able to advise you on the
appropriate level of entry for your experience and
background. For a list of sports websites, visit
